[영어 회화] 서점, 책 구매 관련 영어 표현

 

저는 서점에서 실물 책을 확인하고 eBook으로 구매하거나 인터넷으로 주문하는 편인데요, 할인된 가격으로 책을 살 수 있기 때문이죠! 요즘에는 바로드림 같이 온라인 가격으로 주문한 후 배송을 기다리지 않고 바로 책을 받을 수 있는 좋은 서비스도 있죠. 서점에서 책을 찾거나 사거나 책에 대해 서점 직원에게 물을 때 어떻게 영어로 말하는지 정리해보았습니다.  

 

책을 찾고 둘러보는 것 관련 영어 표현

1. search the location of a book 책 위치를 검색하다

• I need to find 'The Great Gatsby.' Can you help me search the location of that book in the store?
• Is there a way to search the location of a specific book on the bookstore's website?

2. thumb through 훑어보다, 넘겨보다

thumb 대신 leaf를 써서 leaf through 라고도 해요.

thumb through something은 책, 잡지, 서류 등을 빠르게 넘겨보다, 훑어보다는 의미가 있어요.

미용실에서 머리 할 때, 휘리릭 잡지 넘겨보잖아요! 그 때 사용하기 딱인 표현입니다.

• I like to take my time and thumb through different cookbooks before deciding which one to buy.
• Feel free to sit and thumb through the magazines while I finish up here. I won't be long.

3. compare books 책들을 비교하다

• Before making a decision, I like to compare books by reading their summaries and reviews.
• Do you often compare books by the same author to see how their writing style evolves?

4. buy an eBook 전자책을 구매하다

• I prefer to buy an eBook for novels because I can carry a whole library on my e-reader.
• eBooks are much cheaper than paper books.

5. pick up a book paid online 온라인으로 결제한 책을 픽업하다

교보문고의 바로드림 서비스를 이용할 때 사용할 수 있는 표현이에요. 

혼잣말로 I am going to pick up a book paid online 외치고 책 가지러 가봅시다!

• I paid for this novel online; can I pick it up at the counter?
• After paying for the textbook on the website, where can I pick it up in-store?

6. new release 신간

new arrival 이라고도 표현해요.

우리는 책이 카테고리별로 구분된 공간을 '코너'라고 하지만 영어로는 'section'이 더 자연스러운 표현이에요.

• Excuse me, could you help me find a new release section?
• The bookstore always has a special section for new releases near the entrance.

7. be in stock 재고가 있다

반대로 재고가 없다는 영어로 be out of stock 이라고 합니다.

• I've been looking for 'Dopamine Nation.' Is it currently in stock?
• I called yesterday, and they said the new graphic novels should be in stock today.

8. have books delivered to [place] (어디로) 책을 배송받다

'책을 회사로 또는 집으로 배송시켰어' 라고 말할 때 사용해보세요!

• I had the books delivered to my office instead of my home address.
• Is there an extra charge if I want to have the books delivered to a different location?

9. a book signing event 저자 책 사인회

• I heard the author of that bestseller will be at a book signing event next week.
• Attending a book signing event is a great way to get a personalized copy and meet the author.

중고서점은 secondhand bookstore, used bookstore라고 합니다.

• I'm looking to downsize my collection and sell my used books to the secondhand bookstore.
